Terrazzo Pattern Design

Terrazzo – Finally

The Terrazzo pattern design has been a long time coming. The very first version dates back two years ago! in the meantime I kept giving up as I felt the position and combination of colours didn’t work.

Randomising

I feel this sort of pattern should look as random as possible, making a pattern repeat really difficult to pull off.

Creating the Rules

I know it sounds pretentious, but I like to give myself an end point where everything is working as I envisaged. This design has three colours which should be evenly distributed across the pattern. There is a dominant colour for each of the variations, this must be evenly distributed across the design. The other two colours have to be evenly distributed too, but can be more flexible.

Creating The Pattern Repeat

The pattern repeat would be really obvious if the collection of shapes had just duplicated across and down the page. So this pattern repeats horizontally, is then flipped and repeats horizontally but not in-sync with the first row, which means the pattern repeat is actually larger than you might think.

Would you like to buy this design?

A lot of my patterns are available to buy as fabric by the metre from Spoonflower. I can quickly add the design to my Spoonflower shop for you to customise. For more information please contact me.
