Toggle Pattern Design

Introducing Toggle Pattern Design

Toggle evolved from my Circus pattern design. Getting inspiration from the toggle seen on websites and online questionnaires. My version has the toggle going up-down rather than the usual left-right.

More Than Just Toggles

Although the design started with a series of repeated toggles it needed something extra to make it more dynamic. I added a vertical stripe that straddles two columns of toggles. The vertical stripe is pale grey and slightly transparent making it cause the designs below to appear either darker or lighter. Giving the appearance of stylised shading.

Including a White Element

I like to include white elements in my patterns. I find it grounds all the other colours. For Toggle, one of the semi-circles is always white.

Colouring The Design

The first colourways were based on shades of the same colour – which looked a bit boring. I worked on other more interesting, the most extreme ones team acid green with lurid pink!

Testing The Pattern Repeat

These full-screen versions use actual pattern repeats, set to repeat and scaled using my CSS style sheet. This is the ideal way to test if a pattern repeat works.

Buying My Designs

Products featuring my pattern designs are available to buy from my shops hosted by Spoonflower and Contrado. As well as fabrics by the metre, they can produce my designs in a range of home decor items including; tablecloths, bedding, cushions, wallpaper, cushions and wrapping paper / gift wrap.
