Circus Surface Pattern Design

Circus Pattern Design

Introducing Circus Pattern Design

This deceptively simple design started with just two elements: circles and vertical stripes. Alone they would have looked too simple so I cut the circle into two halves which gives the appearance of an overprint – which there isn’t as each element is coloured separately.

Circus Colouring

There are actually two stripes – for most of the designs one is white making the design look most graphic. The circles are either close to the same colour as the stripe or totally opposite which creates the most circus-like appearance.

Testing The Pattern Repeat

The full-screen versions use actual pattern repeats, set to repeat using my CSS style sheet. Meaning I didn’t need large images taking up extra time to download. The scale of the design can be altered too, again using the CSS style sheet.

Pattern Development

This pattern has been developed further to create the new design called Toggle Pattern Design.
