Pinking Shears
Inspired by the pinked fabric edges. This design uses Illustrator’s pattern brush tool to create a simple zigzag pattern. Exaggerating the scale of the zigzag edges made a more dramatic graphic.
Pattern Repeat
I created a total of 12 variations on the design then combined them in a row. With so many the pattern repeat was far too large so I reduced the total to just 6. These were then manipulated them using Illustrator’s transform tool.
White Halos
Each of the patches has a wobbly edged white panel behind it. These started as identical to the patches. Each was then enlarged and wobblified to add character.
Testing The Pattern Repeat
The full-screen versions use actual pattern repeats, set to repeat using my CSS style sheet. Meaning I didn’t need large images taking up extra time to download.
Buying My Designs
Products featuring my pattern designs are available to buy from my shops hosted by Spoonflower and Contrado. As well as fabrics by the metre, they can produce my designs in a range of home decor items including; tablecloths, bedding, cushions, wallpaper, cushions and wrapping paper / gift wrap.
